When an Arizona trust ends
A trust terminates to the extent it is revoked or expires under its terms, no purpose of the trust remains to be achieved, or its purposes have become unlawful, contrary to public policy or impossible to achieve (A.R.S. § 14-10410(A)). A noncharitable irrevocable trust may be terminated on the consent of all beneficiaries if the court concludes its continuance is not necessary to achieve a material purpose (§ 14-10411); the court may terminate a trust for unanticipated circumstances (§ 14-10412); and, after notice to the qualified beneficiaries, the trustee of a trust worth less than $100,000 in total, or uneconomic to administer, may terminate it on concluding that the value is insufficient to justify the cost of administration (§ 14-10414).
Distribution, the reserve and the proposal
On an event terminating or partially terminating the trust, the trustee distributes the trust property to the persons entitled to it within a reasonable time, subject to the right to retain a reasonable reserve for the payment of debts, expenses and taxes (A.R.S. § 14-10817(B)). The trustee may send the beneficiaries a proposal for distribution; a beneficiary's right to object ends if the beneficiary does not notify the trustee of an objection within thirty days after the proposal was sent, provided the proposal informed the beneficiary of the right to object and of the time allowed (§ 14-10817(A)). A beneficiary's release of the trustee from liability for breach is invalid to the extent it was induced by the trustee's improper conduct or the beneficiary did not know of the beneficiary's rights or the material facts (§ 14-10817(C)). On distribution, the trustee may distribute in divided or undivided interests and allocate particular assets, including community property, by equal value (§ 14-10816(22)).
The final report and the record
The trustee's report goes to the distributees and the beneficiaries who ask at the termination of the trust (A.R.S. § 14-10813(C)); a report that adequately discloses a potential claim and states the time allowed starts a one-year period, and two years run otherwise from the trust's termination among the events the statute lists (§ 14-11005). The trustee's deed out of the trust discloses the beneficiaries and identifies the trust (§ 33-404), and the trust's final fiduciary income tax returns close the file; Arizona imposes no estate tax.

Preguntas frecuentes
Can an Arizona trustee end a small trust?
After notice to the qualified beneficiaries, the trustee of a trust whose property is worth less than $100,000 in total, or that is uneconomic to administer, may terminate it on concluding that the value is insufficient to justify the cost of administration; an interested trustee may not (A.R.S. § 14-10414).
Can an Arizona trustee hold back money at the end?
Yes; the trustee distributes within a reasonable time subject to the right to retain a reasonable reserve for the payment of debts, expenses and taxes (A.R.S. § 14-10817(B)).
What does a final report do in Arizona?
It is the report at termination (A.R.S. § 14-10813(C)); where it adequately discloses a potential claim and states the time allowed, a beneficiary's proceeding must be commenced within one year after it was sent (§ 14-11005(A)).
